Entering week 10

I am feeling better now. =)

My jeans are getting tight so I bought couple maternity jeans. I’ve never shopped for maternity clothes before and was amazed at how comfy they were haha. I went out for dinner with hubby and walked by a store that carried organic baby clothes. Guess what? I couldn’t resist and bought a few jumpsuits and baby kimono. so so cute!!

Recently I am a bit worried after reading a forum with women talking about losing their babies at week 12 and even week 19. That’s so scary…I should stop reading about these sad stories and focus on taking care of my body.

Mission accomplished

I’ve been looking for an oil for my tummy coz I wanna do my best to prevent those horrible stretch marks.  Some people say it’s all in the genes but I still wanna take good care of my skin!!  Finally found an oil that I really like.  It’s called Japanese Camellia Oil by Elemis.  It’s not greasy at all because it’s absorbed by the skin very quickly.  I also like the fact that this oil doesn’t have a strong smell…my hubby can’t even detect the smell hahaha.  The cap design is also genius because when you turn it upside down the  oil won’t pour out uncontrollably; instead it just drips out one drop at a time.  About USD50 for 100ml.

How much to eat per day when you are pregnant?

To find out how much daily calories you need to maintain pregnancy weight, roughly multiply your weight by 12 if you aren’t very active, 15 if moderately active, and 22 if very active.  I am trying to become an expert in pregnancy diet haha; to look for food with multiple sources of nutrient.  That way I won’t have to eat too much to fill out the daily requirement.

Protein: 3 servings daily.  Protein composes of amino acid which are building blocks of human cells.  You can imagine how important it is to have enough protein for the creation of a human baby.

Vitamin C foods: 3 servings or more daily.  For wound healing, tissue repair, and other metabolic processes.  Also important for strong bones and teeth.  Our bodies can’t store vitamin C so it must be replenish everyday.

Calcium food: 4 servings daily.  For strong bones and teeth.  Also vital for muscle, heart and nerve development, blood clotting, and enzyme activity.

Green leafy and yellow veggi/fruits: 3 servings daily or more.  These supply vitamin A, in the form of beta carotene, which is vital for cell growth, healthy skin, bones and eyes.

Other fruits and veggi: 2 servings daily.

Whole grain and legumes: 6 to 11 servings daily.  Packed with nutrients, especially the B vitamins that are needed for every part of the body.  Also rich in iron and trace minerals.  These foods may also reduce morning sickness.

Iron rich foods: some daily.  Development of blood supply.  Eating foods rich in vitamin C at the same time will make absorption of the mineral more efficient.

Fats and high fat foods: 4 full or 8 half servings daily.  It’s easy to overfill this requirement, so you gotta watch out what you put in your mouth.  For example, if your weight 125lbs and need about 2100 calories a daily, only 630 calories should come from fat (30% of total daily calories intake).  Only 70 gram of fat (the amount found in a large burger and large fries) is needed to reach 630 calories!!  There are good fat and bad fat.  Look for food rich in omega 3 and DHA coz these are the good fat.

Fluids: at least 8 glasses daily.

Pregnancy calendar

Ok I think I got a little confused over the pregnancy calendar. Yesterday I saw my doc again and the baby’s at 9 weeks 1 day, so officially I am now at week 9. The baby has more than doubled in size compared to 2 weeks ago. It’s almost 3cm long and now really takes on the form of a human. I saw its arms and legs moving/waving…so active!! My doctor said the baby is growing at a healthy rate, and that my blood pressure and protein level are normal. I still haven’t told my parents about the new baby because I know my mom will be overly excited. Will tell her 3 weeks later.

Digestive system on strike

I’ve been having problem with digestion just like most of the pregnant women.  Today I bought some supplements which hopefully will help me fight this problem.  The brand is called Udo’s Choice and it’s made in Canada.  I bought:

1.  Ultimate Digestive Enzymes

2. Super 8 High potency Probiotic

3. Udo’s 3.6.9.Oil Blend Capsules

Digestive enzymes help the body to break down and assimilate nutrients from food.  Probiotics are friendly bacteria that present in our body.  They enhance our immune system, produce antioxidants, improve breakdown and absorption of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.  They reduce constipation.  Udo’s 3.6.9 is just omega 3, 6, 9 oil blend capsule for general health, and not relating to my digestive problem.
